Chula Vista FC Scores Three Unanswered Goals To Win SWPL Final

Published Jul 14, 2024

LA MIRADA, CA (July 14, 2024) - Chula Vista FC proved its mettle when it mattered.

The San Diego Premier League champion, trailing 2-0 after the first 10 minutes, came from behind to defeat Soccer Academy Nevada 3-2 on Sunday in the SWPL Final on Sunday at Al Barbour Field on the campus of Biola University.

"It all comes back to our experience," Chula Vista FC manager Hector Diaz said. "All those players who were with us when we started our MLS Next program are now a little bit older, a lot more experienced and I think that's what made the difference."

Early goals from Johnathan Negrete and Sebastian Fronda pushed Soccer Academy Nevada, the Nevada Premier League champion, out to an impressive lead.

Chula Vista FC, which came back to win its semifinal 3-2 over Worldwide Problems FC, got its first goal on a header by captain Francisco Ramirez off a free kick before haltime.

In the second half, Jorge Navarro was the recipient of a tight passing sequence in the penalty area, scoring into an open net in the 50th minute to equalize.

Just 8 minutes later, Alberto Diaz sent a corner kick to the back post and it slipped through and across the line for a goal.

"You send it into the mix and good stuff happens," Diaz said. "I told my teammates that I was going to send it to that spot and I'm not surprised it went in."

Chula Vista FC advances into the NISA Nation National Playoffs. An opponent and match day/time will be determined.
